AlaskA Safe Driver Academy LLC
People ask us "what is a SKIDCAR" or "how does it work"? If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million! Some of these videos are from our training sessions and some are from police agencies or other high performance driving schools.
For the first time in Alaska history, all drivers now have access to the very best in driving skills training, wether it is for learning to handle a vehicle on snow, ice, rain, sand, gravel, dirt, or higher speeds on dry pavement. This is the same training tool used by the majority of law enforcement agencies and a very few of the best high performance driving schools such as the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.
Of course, some of these trainers are teaching to the racing audience, others are teaching to the law enforcement audience. We are teaching to the civilian audience with an emphasis on safety and control of the vehicle in ALL conditions. The common thread for all of these trainers is this: Drivers must learn to assess the environment, develop insight and experience the challenges of traction loss in order to be able to drive safely in any of these disciplines.
A civilian driver traveling at an ordinary 25mph to 65mph on dry pavement needs to understand the dynamics of maximizing the vehicles grip and stability just as much as a police officer driving at 80mph en route to a call. If something happens that is unexpected, such a moose stepping into the road, both the civilian and police officer need the skill to maintain control of the vehicle.
1. YOU DON'T NEED TO WAIT FOR WINTER TO GET THIS TRAINING.
While we can work in most weather conditions, you can train for bad weather RIGHT NOW. Why wait for snow when you can get the proper skill now?
2. LEARN PROPER TECHNIQUES, YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.
There is a MASSIVE difference in what we can teach you compared to what you will learn by "doing donuts" in an icy parking lot. When doing "donuts", the driver is throwing the vehicle around wildly and training their muscles and brain to overreact to the actual skids that happen while driving in most cases. This type of improper muscle memory can and has resulted in loss of life and serious bodily injury. This isn't something to play around with. The police departments use SKIDCAR training because it teaches the proper skills.
2. TRAIN IN COMPLETE SAFETY.
We can guarantee your safety and you won't have to worry about getting charged with reckless driving or worry about a property owner trespassing or suing you. With the SKIDCAR system, the instructor can stop any skid with a simple push of a button. No other method offers this level of safety.
4. MEANINGFUL TRAINING FOR ADULTS AND TEENS.
We have over a decade of experience working with adults and teens. We know how to teach to the teen driver and we know how to teach relevant, meaningful lessons to adult drivers who are experienced. Compare this with many in the driver education field that are only accustomed to working with teens. The program that you choose will be specifically designed to help you improve your skill.
5. FRONT WHEEL SKIDS:
While many drivers can get a car into a rear wheel skid with little effort on ice or packed snow, the front wheel skid is the most dangerous. It is also the most difficult and most dangerous to practice. Without the proper equipment, training on front wheel skids requires far more speed and risk. We can help you learn how to deal with this challenging skid at a modest 10 to 20mph in total safety!
